Instrument Lights Stay On In Key Position Ii

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have a Ford Fiesta 2011, currently at 4.5Km. I noticed that when I turn to ignition key to position II, all instrument lights turn on, then some of the instrument lights turn off while some of the lights stay on (Ignition warning, Oil Pressure warning, Power Steering warning, Engine warning - malfunction indicator lamp). If I start the engine (ignition key to position III, all the previously lit warning instrument lights turn off after about a second and stay off when I drive. What does this indicate? I'm a new driver and new to cars so any feedback would be nice. Also, I've read the manual and did not see what the key positions I and II are for, though based on experience I know what these does.

Thanks!

If all the warning lights go off when you start the car all is well the only light that should stay on is the handbrake light until you release it.

As for the key positions not sure about 1 never paid much attention to it. But 2 allows you to Use all the cars features eg lights, window wipers, stereo ect without actually starting the car also if you have a deisel it bring the glow plug on before you start the car

this is perfectly normal across the ford range mate,

some warning lights stay illuminated until the engine is actually running.

I'm guessing that those lights that stay on at position II are because at that position the sensors are primed but as the engine isn't running they aren't reporting back results. The other lights go out because they aren't reliant on the engine running.

Anyway its all perfectly normal - as long as they go off when the engine is started.
