How Do You Take The Mirror Cover Off?

Hey, I need to replace my indicator glass after some old bat pushed down a double parked road when I was half down and then sped off after cracking my mirror, so need to replace the glass (and eventually the mirror cap, but I had a spare indicator lens for some reason). How do you change the devil? Stabbed about with a screw driver making a nice mess of the edge of the mirror cap to no avail, anyone care to tell me the right way of doing this?
