Fault Code P2187

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a strange sound in my s-max when the engine is running at 800rpm and the car i standing still. The sound is more difficult to hear at higher rpm.

The sound disappears when I remove the oil filler cap from the engine.

I suspect the crankcase ventilation.

The engine lamp also shows up now and I can read fault code P2187.

Someone recognize the problem?

I have looked all over for a fault code list but I can not find anyone, anyone who knows where to find one?

Or at least what P2187 indicate?

BR

Fredrik

i found this code. and its means: P2187 System too lean at idle, bank 1(fault location); Fuel pressure, injectors, intake leak(Probable cause). That what my program show.

Ditto found same information , Check for Vacuum leaks.

Other topics point to oil filter housing failing and needing to be replaced if sound goes away when pulling dipstick.this refers to the 2.5 turbo st engine which sounds like the same engine you have.this also points to a lot more damage if it's not sorted.

But at least you have something to go on now.

it could also be a maf or lambada sensor problem.

Thank you for your answers.

I will first try to clean the crankcase ventilation.

If anyone have a fault-code list I would appreciate if you could post them to me.

Search the web or ford wiki, the site has a pretty good code list.

Unfortunately a link to that site can't be posted here.

Its a very common problem on the 2.5T - it will be a blocked crankcase breather.

Costs approx £400 to sort at a dealer.

Could not find anything to clean in the crankcase breather.

The sound goes away when pulling oil dipstick so it seems that I have to replace the oil filter housing.

Has anyone done that, is it difficult? How many hours does it take to do the job for an experienced car mechanic?

How much oil do I have to refill?

Thanks for all advise.

You have to buy a new crankcase breather. It is a revised part that you will receive and it hopefully stops the problem from recurring again in the future.

It took the Ford dealer on the Isle of Skye 4-5 hours to change it.
