Bluetooth And Sony Radio

I have a bluetooth/voice control module fitted to my 2007 focus which stopped working almost a year ago. I have tried unplugging it and resetting the radio which worked once but not any more. I would like to replace the module, an easy enough job but I am being told that the modules might need to be programmed to work with the Sony radio I have fitted in the car. Does any one know if this is correct or is it just a plug and play. The module that is not working is a Nokia RX-1C.
