Can't Open Car

Featured Replies

Hi all, 1st post and I need help ...

I work abroad and my car ( Fiesta Titanium 2010) sits in the garage mostly , and my gf is supposed to turn it over/ take it out every week ( which she clearly hasn't )

Ok so my key fob isn't working , I think the car battery is drained, but the strange thing is that when I use the key to unlock manually in the drivers door that doesn't work either so I can't get in the car ...

Any help would be appreciated

The Haynes manual isn't completely clear on this but it looks like there may be no mechanical link between the door lock and the key cylinder. I tried on mine but without disconnecting things you cannot really tell whether turning the key is doing any more than operating a switch. Looks like you will need to be getting the bonnet open (there must be a way) and charging or replacing the battery.

Be aware that the Titanium has an alarm which will trigger if you open the bonnet without unlocking the doors. Bit of a catch 22 situation. If the battery is flat then this should be ok but it might have enough charge to set the alarm off.

Have you tried the spare key?

I would definitely say the car battery has discharged.

Could I advise that when you are away you connect up a trickle charger to keep the battery healthy and invest in a booster pack?

If you are a member of the AA or RAC give them a call.

Thanks for the advice all , sorted now , a neighbour is a police officer and he got in my car in about 10 seconds ( which is a little worringing) was a flat battery started straight away with jump leads , think i will have a look at a trickle charger

Probably would not have been as easy if it had been deadlocked - although I am sure I could be proved wrong!

Hope he didn't show you how to do it?

Trade secrets.

I hope you dumped your girlfriend after that!

I jest, glad you got sorted!
