Speedometer Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi all, I hope someone can help. My wife started the car today and the speedo was not giving her speed and the milage is just showing --------. Has any one else had this problem. I have checked every fuse in the car and they are all fine. I don't have any books etc for car as I bought it from the market and got nothing other than a key with it.

I am totally useless with cars( I can change wheels, bulbs etc but thats as far as it goes.

I just dont want to be ripped off from a garage if this is an easy fix.

Please help,

Stephen

It can be one of two things, either condensation on the back of the speedo panel or misreading from an ABS sensor (if your car has ABS).

First off i'd try giving the back of the speedo panel a shot of WD40 or silicone spray to remove any condensation and put it somewhere to dry for 24 hours before using (airing cupboard etc.)

If that doesn't help then i think you'll have to have the ABS looked at for damaged wiring or a damaged sensor.

Thanks Stoney for super quick reply. How do I get to back of speedo and can speedo be removed as I could bring it into house. to let it dry.

Hope you can help with this
