Mountune Mr155

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone upgraded their Zetec S Ti-VCT to the Mountune MR155 performance pack? I'm thinking of getting this because the standard engine feels frustratingly under-powered at low revs, which is a shame because the handling of the car is faultless.

It's quite expensive though at £1745 excluding fitting but it brings the 0-60 time down from 9.9 sec to 7.5 sec.

Thing is though I rarely rev above 3000 rpm to keep my fuel costs down, so I'm after a little more low end power. Will the Mountune provide a noticeable increase in performance below 3000 rpm? From looking at the performance graphs of the MP140 and MR155 it looks like they both offer an identical gain over the standard engine with a 15nm torque increase up to 3500 rpm, but the increase in overall power of the MR155 only comes into play above 4500 rpm.

Maybe I should have brought a diesel and Mountuned that instead  The diesel pack provides 270Nm torque B)

Hi,

as I think you already know there would be no point in spending that money on the upgrade as your current driving style won't untilise it.

It would be much cheaper to just drive the car harder as the difference may only be about 25 miles per tank. Maybe a few hundred quid a year on your fuel bill if your doing around 12,000 ish miles. Just out of interest what is your MPG at the moment?

The new 1.0 ecoboost engine in the facelift Zetec S would be much more up your street as the turbo gives it peak torque from 1250 rpm!

I average 42mpg although about 80% of my driving is on motorways and I don't go above 70mph. When I'm in town I accelerate naturally up to the green arrow then shift up without laboring the engine.

Yes I agree that turbo charged engines are probably better as the peak power is far more accessible during everyday driving.
