Removing The Battery. Will It Affect The Stereo?

Featured Replies

This might be a bit stupid question but I will ask it anyway. What would happen if I would remove the battery or lets say I would remove the power from the battery). Will it affect the stereo i.e. is there some sort of security code that i would have to have to have to get it activated afterwards?

I suppose its also general question of any potential affects that would be caused by cutting the power from the car.

No codes, it will be fine. Only need to enter date and time.

Source: I've done it about 25 times on various Fiesta's ;)

Thank you for the quick answer. I can put my mind at rest then. I have some mods planned and want to order some stuff from ebay but was quite conscious of the fact that I might have to shut the power down for safety reasons.

Cheers

i wondered about this when I had a flat battery the other day. I thought I ought to disconnect the battery (remove the eartth lead) whilst charging to prevent any possible overvoltage problems with the vehicle electronics. Then I thought about what Rain is asking and decided not to do so. Several cars I have had in the past have lost their stereo code doing this. In the event, all seemed fine after charging up although the mpg figure on the trip computer had reset itself because of the flat battery I assume.

The manual says most emphatically "Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle" so it makes me wonder why this is.

If you have electric windows you will have to teach them again if you do disconnect to battery

And how

If you have electric windows you will have to teach them again if you do disconnect to battery

May I ask how this is done?

Sorry to be pain, I'm bit of a newbie :)

Erm might not get this right but you send the window down and hold the button down for 10seconds then go right to the top and hold the button up for 10 secs. I've only done it once think the sequence is right just not sure about the time. You only have to do it on the drivers side as its just for the auto up and down

Cheers. At least when the time comes I wont scared to death and I wont mess my pants when the windows start playing up. Thanks.
