Back Seat Foot Well Leds, Dilemma What Led's To Use.

Featured Replies

I'm currently getting ready for few interior mods so I'm ordering everything in. With backseat footwell lightning I have 2 questions

  1. Which LEDs to go with. Currently I'm thinking just a 48 LED pad like this http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1497.l2649
    • Due to my lack of experience I'm not sure if there are better options or approaches

[*]Should I set these up as a ambient lightning (so these will stay on) or go as courtesy lightning.

  • I know this is quite personal taste but I wanted to ask what you guys would prefer. Perhaps reason or two why as well so I could consider some of this so I wont end up regretting and ending up reworking the setup.

Any feedback is genuinely appreciated.

Lenny,

Belive it or not but I actually went through your siglum to see if you had any mods on this front and I still missed it. Brilliant guide by the way.

Reading through your guide I can see that you connected them to the front footwell loom so they act as courtesy lights. Did you consider keeping them "on" all the time as ambient lights?

Thanks mate,

I did think about having them on a 3way rocker switch so then for example:

Position I on the switch

would put the on when the parking lights are active etc.

Position II on the switch

They would come on and off in time with the courtesy lighting.

If you wanted this option all you would need is a 12v 3way rocker switch, some spade connectors, 2m 10amp cable and an interior light feed.

I didn't fit them this way because I have the rear of the centre console illuminating with the parking lights etc.

So it stays illuminated while the footwells fade on and off as back up illumination.

Great for storing some aftershave sample lmao

Then full illumination when door opened

Thanks Lenny. I do have some 3 way switches heading on my way so it might be an option. I ordered x2 of the LEDs you recommended ( http://www.ebay.co.u...8840387&afsrc=1 )

Price is bit hefty just for the LED's but it will be so worth it.

BTW. with the mod above (centre console mod), did you use the same LEDs in POD of 3? I tried to where this guide is but had no joy.

Thanks Lenny.

Hi mate,

For the centre I used a 3smd led strip, marked the locations of the leds on the strip to markings on the plastic the drilled some 2.5mm holes to allow the light pass through and held the 3smd strip in place with electrical tape.

Thank you. Sounds quite straight forward. Its a shame that this kind of mod can not be done with Fiesta.... :)

I would even do it the same way and place aftershave there! Uber chick magnet!!!!

Especially if you can get them to drink it lmao

I just put the bottle their for the picture, as glass catches the light and displays it very well and since the led's are flush fitted it appears to be an invisible source of glow.

Also if you have an interior light dimmer fitted, and you splice additional interior lighting to the existing supply. Then the additional lighting will also dim

Do you have dimmer fitted for your courtesy light? It's an intriguing idea...

no but I'm on the search for the ford light çontrol unit with dimmer wheel because it is a straight fit.

After market dimmers are available and manufactured by "autogauge" but cost around 50pounds so better with the ford.
