Ford Fiesta Tdci Issues

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have had my 1.6 tdci zetec s fiesta about 8 months, it has 51k on the clock and has fsh. It has been a total gem since buying it and never caused any problem. Since buying it though I have heard about turbo issues. Searches on google etc seem to only bring up focus issues, not fiesta. Do the fiesta's suffer the same issues?? It is a 57 plate too, one site said they change the design in 2007 so hopefully I have missed any issues.

I have also read about some filter that blocks and can cost a fortune to repair. Something like a particulate filter, is this also the case.

I am just wanting to understand the potential issues to be honest

Thanks

From what I understand the turbo issues were only on the focus. The filter that can block is a DPF (deisel particulate filter) only becomes a problem if you don't do a long journey ever so often at a constant speed so. Say you do a motorway trip every week or 2 for about 15 miles constant 70 or 60 it will be fine

Scotty's Fiesta doesn't have a DPF so that won't be an issue ;)

I know but he mentioned it so I thought I would tell him what it was

The MK 6 Fiesta potentially has instances of the feed pipe to the turbo blocking and causing repeat turbo failures.

From 2008 there were modified parts.

Thought this was just a focus related issue, did a lot of research when I was changing from a fiesta to either another fiesta but a zetec s, or the focus titanium I eventually opted for. Chose the 1.8tdci in the end to avoid the turbo issues as my budget at the time wouldn't quite get me past the revised 2008 model, plus its got no DPF either, so one thing less to worry about. But in all my searching I never came across this problem on the fiesta's ?

The 1.6 DLD engine is the joint Ford/PSA development. The problem stems from using the wrong oil and lots of short journeys that creates sludge, this is what blocks the oil feed pipe and then turbo failure. The 1.8 is derived from Fords own workhorse and is very reliable.

Failures are starting to appear on the older Fiesta and Fusion 1.6 TDCi, Peugeot and Citroens are seeing the same problems.
