Starting Problem (Mk5)

Featured Replies

My sisters' car wont start and when the ignition is turned there is a clicking sound

from the box highlighted in the picture below (the picture does'nt show her car).

I was wondering if anyone could help with this?

Her car is a Fiesta mk5.

I think the box you have highlighted is the fuse/ relay box and the clicking will be the ignition relay as for the non starting does it try turn over of do you just get the clicking noise

It does'nt try to turn over, i just get a clicking noise from the relay box. Does a fuse need changing/taking out and putting back in?

Have you tried jumping it of as it could be a flat battery

Or the starter motor could be jammed. Not so common these days but try rocking the car back and forward in 4th gear and listen for a "clunk" if it frees itself.

If neither of the above work then it is probably a bad electrical connection between the battery and starter motor, or the starter motor has failed.

Thanks for the replys on this, found out it was a flat battery.

Replaced the battery and the car is now running again.
