Fiesta Mk7 Water Ingress/leak

Featured Replies

Hey Guys :)

Got a Fiesta MK7 (59 Plate) which seems to have a water leak in the boot passanger side. After looking on here a few people seem to be have a similar problem.

Does anyone have a idea of where the water is coming in from the outside?

I've also phoned Ford and got a case number and the car is in the gargae the now for investigation (£86 per day i think it costs) has anyone got a good will from Ford for water ingress before/whats the chanches of it?

Its in the Ford Marchars gargae in Partick, Glasgow who apparently have a "Water ingress specialist unit" so hopefuly that helps.

Its really annoying as i didnt notice it for a week roughly so the boot black matt is soaked along with the read passanager seat and rear passanger floor so it now has a slight dampness smell whats the best method to get rid of this smell?

Thanks!

Not sure about where the waters coming from ive got a mk and had water entering through the brakelights. Used vanish power foam for carpets and gave the carpet a good scrub with a hand brush to work it into the carpet then you leave it to dry and Hoover it and that got rid of the smell. Either that or you could use a wet and dry vacs or take it for an interior valet.

I wonder if it tends to happen after the tail light cluster has been off to change a bulb ? If so, I am going to pay special attention to the seals if and when I have to do this. Might even apply some petroleum jelly or something on the seals.

Possibly. I fitted new seals and applied some silicon grease around the outer edge and this seems to have stopped the problem :) Silicon grease is readily available from any plumbers merchants and it resists heat and its water repelant. Im a gas engineer so had some to hand anyway as its very usefull in my trade lol

Thanks guys, After speaking to the garage they said it was:

- Pin Holes in a Spline(might be wrong was a bad line but was def pin holes)

- And a seal on the drivers side

Investegiateing plus fixing it the bill was £336 ford has offered 10% good will which takes it to around £300 mark.

About the pin holes this sounds like a manufacter issue? Good anyone confirm will post proper problems tonight and details of repairs once i pick the gar up.

Should i fight for more of a good will gesture do you think its possible?

-- UPDATE --

The description of the job was:

LAB:

Investigate water ingress confirmed fault at both read roof gutters leaking resealed removed interior and dried testing fault cleared.

Net Total:252

Vat: 50.40

Total: 302.40

For 2 days work.

Whats the views guys?

Depends on the break down of parts and labour. The labour will likely be the bulk of the cost, you are possibly looking at 3-4 hours work depending on how much trim was removed to gain access and dry things out. I guess it also depends on what guarantee you have that it won't happen again.

I recently had 3 leaks fixed(Roof,Rear under bumper and iirc fron wing area),and a few seals replaced on my 2010 ZS.They had my car for a total of eight days! Ford were on their backs every day,as was I.Ford payed for everything,as a good will gesture.Never paid a penny, even for the courtesy car.

I'm not trying to rub it in,but I find it strange they are charging someone else so much and only offering 10% costs paid for.

Am going to keep this going with them until i get more then.

Accoridng to the invoice its 252 before vat just for labour and 302 aftet vat.

There isnt any charges for parts.

Do you think ford will cave in admit there wrong if i keep going ?

Surely pin holes in the two gutters in the roof has got to a manufacturing falut and not wear/tear?

Hi friends from far and wide!

Underneath the pillar, under the frame of the car, just between the two doors, a few inches from the edge, you will find a plug, a rubber plug. It can be removed with your fingers. Remove it and all the water accumulated inside the tubular chassis will come out as a jet. Do not forget to plug it back when you're done though. This is only 50% of the solution to this problem until you find out where in the car is the water leaking into the frame. Generally this happens only on the driver's side, but hey ho, who knows.

Cheers!

I dont get it either, and hear this so mnay times. I dont know much bit i think these holes are caused when the roof and side panels are welded together . Sometimes this causes pin holes where water can leak through, so yes, its a manufacturing issue. I've also heard that the machine that does this job can take a while to warm up each morning , and so the first few cars that go through it do not get done properly. May be rubbish, but it may explain why every now and again a car starts leaking. I mean its not every Fiesta but its enough to wonder what is causing it to happen to a few cars.

For a temporary test, run black PVC electricians tape along full length of the roof trim inserts, cover both edges so NO water can get through, give car a good wetting or leave in rain for a few days and if carpets dry youve found the leak, you could run flowable silicone along the edges of the roof trim to seal.
