How To Filter Footwell Lights?

I bought some red lights w5w for my foot well but they seem to be almost like spotlights as if Mr bean was about to jump into the spotlight.

I was after a filtered light so it would show red from within the foot well like the white ones did.

Any recommendations on what I could do to covert them without buying more? I'm thinking some sort of filtering over the glass or around it.. I know they are dirt cheap just don't want the same again!
