Roof Bars?

Featured Replies

Hi, been quoted (by ford garage) £191 for fitting of bars, ford part number: 1718804, (which I was going to purchase from here .... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Ford-Fiesta-Racks-1718804/dp/B008CONWJ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366034125&sr=8-1&keywords=1718804

Seems a bit expensive, but they said that when they remove rubber cover that goes along the top, they might find no holes and have to drill them and test/check water sealing?

Is this normal?

thanks

harry

Fit them yourself and make sure you use plenty of silicone sealant in the holes to maintain the seal.

Unfortunantly I'm not very "diy" competent so might have to swallow the installation cost :(

I think i'll go for the £99 genuine ford roof rack, I'll check with the ebayer that the product comes with two replacement gutter strips and glue

update ... I purchased the £100 ford bars (thanks stevegtuk), thought i'd be brave and try removing strip, check were the fixing holes are .....

but see pic ... i tried pressing a small screwdriver into the one "hole" but didn't seem to go in after going through the few mm of "silicon".

Do i need to be more "aggressive" opening the hole out (only one)?

or will this be a ford garage drilling job?

ta
