2001 3Dr Fiesta, Door Handle Problem

Guys my other half has a 2001 3door fiesta and both the !Removed! door handles on the outside of the car have decided to stop working, they are extremely loose and wont open the door at all, we can still get out from the inside but obviously getting in is an issue as we have to climb through the boot which opens when it feels like it!!!

Any ideas on what the problem could be? I know it's a stab in the dark abyss but the car is needed as a daily runner

    No the drivers side went about a month ago and the passenger one has gone tonight, I think it may be the eye on the handles snapping but I'm not sure

    Id imagine its the handles that are faulty probably be easier to replace them than try n repair them
