Awful Driving

Featured Replies

Today I saw the most hideous display of bad driving I think I have ever seen in my life.

Where I live, there is a national speed limit (60mph so one lane!) road, about 1 1/2 miles long.

At the end there's a roundabout leading onto a motorway (A329M which then leads to the M4), so obviously loads of traffic during peak times.

8:15am this morning I was on this particular road on the way to college, sat in traffic, when I look to my right and see a teenage boy in a vauxhall corsa. He then overtakes me, and proceeds to drive all the way down that road in the middle of the road, overtaking the mile-long row of traffic.

I have NO idea how he didn't cause a fatal collision as there was traffic coming off the motorway too in the opposite direction- no traffic so they were quite happily doing 60mph.

That was a wonderful start to my morning. And he is also a perfect representation of the population teenage drivers where I live :)

Anyone else have any particularly horrendous experiences to share? :p

Just this morning as I was coming back from uni, I was travelling down a 40mph road with cars whizzing down both sides of the road. There was a van parked at the side, who, without indicating or any prior warning, just pulled out in front of me. I slammed my brakes on and honked my horn, and I heard a screech of brakes as the car behind me stopped with a few inches to spare. To make matters worse, the guy then (still stationary in the middle of the road, I should add) rolled down his window, gave me the finger, and looked at me as if to say "what are you doing?!"

Not impressed.

What the hell?? It's hardly your fault

People like that have a very bad effect on my road rage

It makes me wonder how they passed their driving test!

I couldnt tell you the amount of bad driving I have seen, but I have to say, between people who dont think before they move, and then bite at you as if your entirely in the wrong... I will never know how I have never pulled them out of their car and forced a copy of the highway code, page by page, down there throat!

I was on quite a large round about late last year and was going round it maybe about 30mph and I seen this big lorry waiting to come onto the round about, he looked right at me then proceeded to pull out onto the round about cutting me up! It was only the fact I had a sneaking suspicion of what he was about to do that saved me going right into him and ripping the roof off my car! Guy never even looked back! :@ foreign drivers for you!

Also, a couple of weeks ago, I saw a bus driver enter a roundabout despite a civic already being on there, coming towards it. It was a fairly large roundabout with three or four lanes. The civic dived towards the lane closest to the roundabout, but the bus (indicating right) obviously didn't see, or just thought the civic would get out of the way. By this time the bus was obscuring my view and I was trying to join the roundabout, so i'm not sure what happened next but I heard a horn, a crunch, and saw the civic actually on the roundabout (on the grass), with the bus right beside. How the bus didn't see it I have no idea!

But then again, my brothers a crap driver so I'm used to it lol. He's on his fourth car in 3 years, having crashed all of the others and written off two. He made a bus brake to a stop half way round a mini roundabout once (at least this bus stopped!) because the roundabout was on an incline, and he didn't want to do a hillstart...

I've just bought a RoadHawkHD car cam for this reason... if it isn't my fault when there's an accident I'll have some evidence to prove it.

Mine goes back a number of years, 11-13 to be precise, when I was travelling with my three young sons in the car, there is a particular road that goes over a small stream near me and the bridge is rather narrow with a blind bend to the left as you go over it, i'd just crossed the bridge when a car came the other way near enough on my side of the road, and had it not been for the pavement on my side, which I had to mount it would have been a near on head on collision.

To make matters worse, the other car was equipped with flashing blue lights and a siren, (Yes it was a police car), neither of which were being used at the time.

I was so incensed, that after i'd dropped my sons off at their mother's I went and reported the incident to the duty inspector at the local nick, the inspector, (An ex-traffic cop), was very apologetic about it, and vowed to find out who the offending officer was, and as I said to him, had the boot been on the other foot i'd have expected to have been pulled over and reported for driving without due care.

As a parting shot I suggested to the inspector that the officer be sent back to Hendon for a refresher course in driving.

So it goes to show that in every walk of life there are good drivers and bad drivers, (Even so called Professional drivers).

P.S. I also have on order a car cam system, just waiting for it to arrive.

I deal with dodgy drivers on a daily basis, the amount of people who have no road manners or common sense staggers me.

I'd love to take every one I pull over to the scene of a fatal RTC and see how quickly they start to consider others when they see the pure carnage that can occur.

I have attended way too many fatalities to give any latitude to snotty little erks that think that their vehicle comes with a personal force field.

No excuse washes with me, bad driving is bad driving, batting eyelashes or promising to drive better cuts no mustard in my book.

I reported someone today for driving like a moron...

Overtaking in 30 limits, undertaking at roundabouts... Then driving across a pedestrian area in the middle of a town...

Good effort Officer ;)

It's nice to have the ability to do something about the tools you see on the road rather than merely shaking your fists at them isn't it?

Did anyone see that guy in the papers today doin 65mph on the M8 playing a racing game on his iPad holding it at the steering wheel occassionally glancing at the road ahead? The daily record I think it was. I dobt know if our English members get that paper down there

It's great!! Sadly I don't think anything will come of it as He's of... How shall I say this... No fixed abode...

I do not get that paper :p

But that reminds me of a few weeks ago, I was driving down the M3 towards Farnham/Guildford way, and saw someone driving slowly along the hard shoulder with their hazards on. I was very confused until I looked over and saw that he was on the phone!

Bearing in mind the next junction was about a mile ahead it must have been a very very important phone call!

If he was moving and on the hard shoulder then he was committing three offences for the price of one.

CU80, Using a mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle. (3 points)

CD30, Driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration (3-9 points)

MW10, Contravention of special roads regulations ( except when stopping on a hard shoulder in an emergency). (3 points)

In my opinion I'd have put him forward for consideration of a ban.

That would fill the "any other offences to consider" box on a TOR nicely!!

Indeed it would, and I'd happily think of other things to add as well.

Why can't the cheap gets just pony up for a Bluetooth device? not exactly expensive.

Angry birds is just far too addictive I'm afraid.

Had to be you ;)

sometimes I wish I was a traffic cop, I would spend no time behind the wheel because I would just keep pulling them one after the other after the other...

Officers... if you record some tool on an in car cam system... can you get someone prosecuted for it in the absence of an officer testimony?

Last time I gave a recording, the police told me they would look into it and I heard nothing back, could or would they even do something?

Well there's a suprise.. Corsa drivers..

One backed into my dads car in park yesterday, and on my way to work this morning, I was on the outer lane of a large round about just about to turn off, a corsa driver on the inside lane cuts across me out of the blue and speeds off leaving me with a face like  What is wrong with them?
