huey45
Hi guys can any of you advise in my car is a 16v or 8v i dont know how to check ?? i read on wikipedia earlier cars had 16v, but later models where dawn rated to 8v, i suspect for cost savings in manufacturing... Thanks in advance...
FOCA
Hi, welcome to the furum! As far as im aware, I thought they were all 16v, 16v heads are better for emmissions, and with ever-tightening compliance (euro 4/5 etc) i would have thought 8v heads would be unlikely, re- tooling for an 8-valve head costs money too (though the 16v may have been based on an older, 8v version) where did you hear this? Of course i may be wrong and if so, stand corrected
huey45
Hi FOCA Thanks for reply, being honest i thought i had bought a 16V, and deciding to check i had been into various search engines, i went into Wikipedia, it gives a history of Tdci engines made by Ford 416 type is a 1.6 Tdci, then it goes on to describe changes.. huey45
Hi FOCA Its definately a 8V not a 16V i took a pic of details under plastic cover it states DV6C....if you look at this link it explains changes http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DLD_engine Keith

Keith Wikipedias articles are written by human contributers, so can have human error, although many assume everything written is correct, The 1.6 is a PSA engine (peugeot citroen ) the 1.8 is an 8- valver, goes back into the mists of time and was used on the 1st Mondeos, (mk1 and 2, upto 2000) and earlier cars the 2.0L/2.2L Mondeo (2000-2007) engine is a "real" Ford engine, the later ones (2007 -) are PSA, (all (2000 on) mk3 and mk4 4 cylinder diesel Mondeps are 16v ) (this is all from memory so i dont have to rely on other peoples errors) so, as far as im aware, only the 1.8 diesel was an 8v used in "modern" Fords as it is an old (Ford) engine design - they are all called "they are duratorque" to add to the confusion Edit - Looks like they do an 8-valve version of the PSA 1.6 (as used in some Fords) after all
huey45
Hi TOCA the link in my post #5 explains it all, looking under cover its defo not a dohc or 16 valver might be good idea for other owners to make a sticky, if they thought like me their cars are 16 valvers...?Keith

b1g_dav3
Well my previous prefacelift was an 8V, pretty sure this one is too, best thing to do is I'll pop my head under the bonnet when on my adventure to find an easy way to the commonrail sensor. huey45
Hi M8 Thanks for confirmation on 8v, im not particulary bothered, i still love my Focus to bits my misconception was i thought i had bought a 16 valver, but hey ho, its fast enough for me, icing on the cake would be headlights with built in drls, there is a company in China makes them but they are £313 a pair + shipping, bit steep, ones in triangular foglight covers may be a option... b1g_dav3
They were on my pre-facelift Fiesta, literally a week before I got rid of it. Put an LED Halo ring on the projector lens housing, and removed the sidelight altogether. Then switched in the halo ring as the DRL and sidelight and away I went. Not something for the feint of heart but I was asked to do it by my cousin who now has the car so all is good really. A lot of cutting and sticking, with some filler here and there. I need to get a picture of it actually still :P Seen the Version 2 on eBay a few times, can't say I've seen the others though.
