New Problem :(

Featured Replies

Right, so i have just got over the squeeky belt, anyway yesturday morning after starting her up there was no squeek but a clicking tapping noise which went away about 60 seconds down the road and when i got to work it was sowing machine smooth, that evening when i started her up it clicked again but not for aslong, i opened the bonnet to see what was going on and nothing to been seen out of place, the noise is coming from the belt side of the engine but it seems to eminate from the rear most pulley which is the AC? The noise isnt instant and starts after a few seconds of the engine starting, then sort of dissapears, no problems with running or anything, perhaps im worrying and its just sticky valve? Felt the cam belt cover when the noise is present and there is no vibration or funny feelings at all, otherwise its just the new stretch belt being a touch tight maybe, also an extra note to make is that starting from warm =no noise, i doubt the cam belt noise would go away and i would imagine it would be slapping and knocking all over the show under the cover. Just panic over every single noise these days....

Thanks for any opinions.

My old MK1 Focus used to tick for about a minute or so after starting but the noise would go after warm up.

Probably nothing to worry about.

Whether or not it was concealed by the naff sounding belt before? Because ever since i got the little sod of a thing something on that side of the engine has been wrong. Water pump, belt just nice not having that squeek every time i try to go anywhere, its an awful click really especially when parked next to something older with tens of thousands of miles on it and it sounds like its running on double cream, cue the ford tractor department, even a brand new ZS drove past me the other day and that even had a knock tap whiz bang kind of ford twang, haha atleast it doesnt sound like my mates 1 liter 3 pot corsa otherwise known in the village as the peace breaker,or the buzzing hoovery of my neighbors 1.4 civic, i will keep my ears pealed for any more worrying noises, just dont think it was there before, aslong as it keeps going she will be proper as we say down this way.

I might try and get a video tommorow if its not raining, i left the car yesturday all day and never used it, this morning the noise lasted a little longer, and is only apparent after the new drive belts and AC regas which i doubt has anything to do with it, perhaps the stretch belts havent stretched yet and are a little tight?

And im guessing that if it was the cam belt hitting the cover it would be a constant noise that doesnt go away after a couple of minutes?

Also i have noticed that if i drive with the noise it gets quicker with the amount of revs but doesnt sound any worse, its definately from the top left of the engine on the belt side, but im not sure what the pulley up there is can anybody shine any light or put up a belt diagram for a 1.4 mk 6?

Thanks.

Thanks for all of the help Clive, i might give the pulley arm on the AC a quick squirt of WD40, as i reckon that since i had it re gassed and its been activated for the first time in 9 years may be upsetting it a touch maybe? what would be the best stuff to get into it if the WD works, perhaps leave it running for a while when i drive a fair way to see if the grease in the bearing is just dry, *although im unsure if it would even engage a bearing at all if its not activated in the cabin..... *

*Just read that section again and realised how dumb i just was.

The aircon pulley spins all the time, it's the aircon clutch going on that runs the system.

Right to me this sounds like the AC from the position it comes from, im uploading a video in a minute, from the outside it was barely audible, while inside it was clicking almost as loud as normal, i have also recorded a small clip of after a fair 10 mile blast i went on which shows the noise is completely gone.

You might pick up the noise, or you might just turn around and say that's a noise every other fiesta has ever made either way, it didn't seem so bad today.

Back on form tonight, sounding awful again, it seems worse after using the AC the day/night before starting cold again, it seems to be the AC compressor to me as if you lower your ear to the engine it sounds alright while of you lower to the other side its click central.

Went to see my mechanic, we noticed that the belt isn't 100% lined up, we moved it so it's square and this afternoon the noise didn't exist at all, hopefully that has got it, thanks again for the help you gave me.
