My 1.6 Mpg Tests....

Featured Replies

i drive (more or less) the same style, same routes week in week out. so i decided to fill my 1.6 zetec up with different fuels, monitor it and write down the mpg. i know its not 100% accurate but here are the figures.

with standard bp fuel 33.4 mpg

tesco standard 33.2mpg

shell v power nitro (only due to a money off voucher!) 34.3

i guess driving style would play more of a part in my case, mabye.

anyway thoughht id share. the £5 extra for the v-power id say wasnt worth it as many say on here.

but now and again to keep the engine smooth i will use it.

i must say though, the car does seem better on the shell fuel. nothing major, no speed increase just smoother thats all.

How old is your focus? Do you have the trip computer that gives you an average MPG output?

I've always been curious to how accurate that read out is. I normally average (according to the computer) 35 mpg.

If I reset it and take it on the motorway doing an average of 50mph I get 50 miles per gallon.

Does anyone else have the computer and actually filled and refilled after your journey to test how accurate it is?

the main reason for using the shell is smoother car happier cleaner engine which in turn saves money as most using the cheap supermarket stuff have to use redex or similar quite often i know on my ti vct the difference between shell and standard is noticeable at low revs and the car is just happier and i get driving the same route daily 5-9 mpg more from standard shell fuel i also have the drivers club card so i make back the extra cost in fuel vouchers win win all round ive only used shell fuel over the last few years standard shell fuel will have the car running nicely and isnt anymore expensive than many others

if the cars happy im happy if im happy the mrs is happy well worth it lol
