Rpm Fluctuation

Featured Replies

So for the past week i've been noticing the car taking longer to start, and the RPM's fluctuating by maybe 50-200rpm between 1.5k -3k. I've just dumped a load of STP fuel cleaner and while it's better, it still hasn't solved it. It had it's second service in February, so it's never had new spark plugs. I'm not sure whether to just wait or have them done early.

It does hestitate when pulling off even if you floor the gas, but i've heard many complaint's about this on the 1.4.

Normal or something to worry about in the near future? Not looking forward to be stranded in the winter! Also the Drivers door sensor for "Door Open" has stopped working. Anyone know which fuse this could be?

Currently at 22k miles!

At 22k the 1.4 should still be great. I have driven a same year model with 90k on the clock and it didn't miss a beat. I would say take it to Ford and ask them to check it out. At 22k and less than 3 years old right now you're still in warranty... Well hopefully. Spark plugs would be a good idea, as would the MAF and even the DPF if you travel a lot of short journeys. There were also problems with the injectors and the ECU on some of these engines.

Check the obvious, have the plugs out check the leads and clean the air filter, also if the engine is the same zetec se found in my mk6 the throttle body may want a little clean with some wd40 and a toothbrush as they can get clogged up easily, also check the Ford ETIS website for out standing field issues such as CPU updates or recalls ETC.

Ford are going to love to see me again. I've only just taken her in because of the temperture sensor not putting out enough heat. I had the air filter changed at 8k to K&N air filter, hopefully this hasn't made the maf sensor clog up. I've recently just topped her up with coolant as that was below the low line.

The only other thing i notice is that when the A/C is on i can feel some hesitation when i'm hitting the gas, almost like a sneeze and then she continues. Hopefully the injectors arn't dirty but i did notice a small improvement when i dumped a full bottle of sTp fuel cleaner.

Will report back when i have updates!
