MatthewAkehurst
Hi all, I'm replacing my gem module on my 04 fiesta, I'm upgrading to add remote central locking. Anyone got any hints or tips for replacement? Anything to be wary off? Also how easy is it to re programme the new key? Cheers.
Fiesta1.25
Hi it's a relitively thing to do, as long as you buy the correct module, and out a car with the same number of doors(or else your door warning light in the dash will stay on), facelift and pre facelift modules are model specific so you need one for a pre facelift.... I believe the serial numbers beginning 6S6T are for facelift so avoid them, you will need a 4S6T 15K600 with either a C or D followed by any letter so for example 4S6T 15K600 CA would be equipped with remote locking but 4S6T 15K600 BC wouldn't. Hope this helps The key is simple to program so long as you have two original keys (that can start your car) I bought a flip key from eBay for £30 got it cut in a local shop for a tenner, and programmed my self. So including the gem module the whole mod only cost £70 one of the best mods I've added to my car.... Barring the leccy windows :-)
MatthewAkehurst
Thanks for the quick reply. I have the gem ending in DA so that's fine. I only have one key though. Where does that leave me? Can I buy a blank key and fob from eBay and use that as a second key? Also how easy is it to programme the key? Cheets
Fiesta1.25
Tbh I am not exactly sure buddy, it will be simple to programme it so that your remote key will lock/unlock your doors but I don't think its (easily) possible to programme it to your immobiliser(with only one original key) it will be a security thing, to stop people from, for example: hiring a car then using the key from hire company and making your own key, hence the reason for having to have two remote keys. Maybe someone else on the forum can shed more light on the subject. Sorry I can't be of more help, I will scour the net to see what I can find out for you though.... Could always ask your local ford dealer? Or even a good independant key cutter may know? Keep us posted on how you get on.
MatthewAkehurst
Yeah that's what I thought. Thanks for your advice though I really appreciate it. From what I've read Ford charge about £80 to programme a new key although it quite literally involves pressing a few buttons. If you read anything that would be great if you let me know. Many thanks. Fiesta1.25
I don't think Ford would program an unofficial key bought from eBay, I bet they will only program one of their own supplied by them, which will end up costing a fortune.
Richbaker22
I added remote locking through a universal kit off eBay cost me £20 and was quite easy to fit it also comes with a blue led to drill into the dash , carbon fiber key fobs and has a boot release button and window closer on it. I personally think this is a better option than the standard central locking and it's cheaper
Fiesta1.25
Nice one mate, sounds like a bargain, I did consider fitting a non genuine kit but thought using oem would have been easier. How do you wire it up? Can you send the eBay link? Cheers
