alexp999
I traded in my 2010 1.6 TDCi Fiesta in January this year for a 2.0 TDCi Titanium X Focus, I had always wanted one and the opportunity presented itself so I went for it. The interior build quality of the Focus is a lot nicer than my Fiesta was, it is also a much nicer motorway cruiser and has a very "nice and comfortable" feel about it, but I don't know if that might be the problem? I bought the Focus as I was finding my old Fiesta a little lacking in spark, don't get me wrong the Focus can really shift when it wants to, but I'm not exactly doing the miles for a diesel - I mainly do short trip town driving, and only bought the diesel as I like the "guts" of a diesel. The Focus' steering doesn't inspire great confidence though, feels a bit dead sometimes and is not as good as the EPAS on my old Fiesta. It also seems to me that the modern Ecoboost engines and their low inertia turbos can give you much the same "torquey feel" from a petrol now. Since I watched Top Gear last night, I can't get the Fiesta ST out of my head! Starting to think maybe I should stop trying to buy sensible cars not best suited to town driving anyway and go for something a bit more fun? I'm unlikely to take it on a track anytime soon nor drive it like an idiot so I don't want the car wasted on me either. It's driving me crazy so I just wanted to know what people thought? Also for those that have one: 1, How do you rate the interior build quality and materials - from the pics I have seen it looks like they have got rid of some of the plastic (such as door handles/steering wheel) and switched it for metal like the Focus, anyone confirm? 2, What sort of MPG are you getting - I know it is not the sort of car you worry too much about, but I would be interested to know how it compares around town to my Focus. 3, Comments have been made about low speed/bad road ride comfort, how bad is it - I have never had a car with lowered suspension and such huge wheels. Loz Cheung
Howdy! I went from a Fiesta Zetec S to a Focus Zetec S....and then i took the went back and got this ST. I started a poll a while back and last month i sold out on the "i couldnt go back to a Fiesta" mentality that i had! I absolutly love the Focus for what it does well - everything. in comparison, the ST just makes me smile for what it doesnt do so well in comparison! 1 The interior is an improvement - the plastics do look more metallic like - as per Focus colour, but still not as solid as the Focus. sound deadening has improved too - the diesel ones are soo quiet in comparison to the Mk7's . The caveat with the ST though is the symposer which is quite bassy + theres a very slight exhaust note to cater for. 2 MPG i was hovering at about 40mpg, this has been dropping by 0.1mpg down to 38.9 now though. Thinking that the lighter car would be more eco goes out the window due to repeated bursts of acceleration! So i need to behave again to get that back to what i hope is a normal 40mpg! 3 Ride - Definietly the most noticeable aspect of this car. Yes its firm, i couldnt stop laughing at how much you notice it from both the Focus + Fiesta Zetec S- shows how well the Focus is set up! However, it wasnt difficult for me personally to get past that and its not too bad on a daily basis. Ive yet to do a proper long stint on it though so ive yet to report on tyre/road noise and comfort. But for me, the ride is the one you'd have to try out for yourself first! so i'd recommend the test drive purely for that! Also the Fiesta is quite sparsely equipped compared to your Titanium X - im hoping cruise control and the city pack get introduced next year - so can you live without those? My Focus Zetec S didnt come with the toys you have so i dont really have much to miss!
bigmunkynutz
You may want to consider the 125 1.0 Ecoboost, they do have good economy and are pretty rapid, with a good build quality, get down to your dealer and give one a test drive.
Ollies122
1) interior Comments i would have to agree with Loz Cheung2) I'm averaging 37MPG but if my foot slips it goes to about 23MPG3) The suspension is firm but i seem to forget about it and just constantly keep driving with a smile on my face :) out of the 3 fiesta's i have owned this is by far my favorite to drive(Book a test drive and see what you think)
alexp999
Yeah I have looked into the 125PS, the problem is, to get the equipment I want, it works out about £17k, which then enters the same territory as an ST... Its difficult because the car I have now is very different in many ways, but after I reset the trip when I popped back home at lunch time, I only got 38MPG for the 4 mile round trip. I think I will have to give one a go, but I just feel so torn at the moment, the Fiesta is not going to save me any money, potentially it could cost more, but is it worth it for the fun factor - my Focus has got guts and is "lovely" but doesn't really put a smile on my face... Ollies122
There is a massive fun factor :) you can drive at normal speeds get a decent MPG. and it also has the performance :)Be mindful of the fact that you don't get much optional extras, but i suppose this car isn't about fancy gadgets, it's more about fun and performance
alexp999
The mains things I would like are all on the ST2 that I can see, Sony DAB, LED DRLs, Ambient Lighting, Privacy Glass, Power Start - though not keyless I presume? I don't use a lot of the kit on my Focus, did a 3 hr jounrey back from Cornwall (including about 50miles of dual carriageway) and didn't use cruise control once, as I usually forget about it, lol. It still factors in though, that is what is making me so torn.... Comfy and well equipped diesel Focus vs Nimble and sporty petrol Fiesta... Even if I like how it drives, I don't know if I will be any closer to making a decision, might just make it harder

alexp999
The brochure I have shows Privacy Glass as standard on ST2, Style pack (which seems to be be free if you do ford finance) contains: Illuminated Scuff Plates Red Brake Calipers Grey alloys EDIT: Also it is proper keyless start then, not just insert key then press button? So you can keep the key folded, blip the fob to unlock and then just keep keys in your pocket to start? I have had keyless entry and start on my last 2 Fords, so I'm not sure how it works with only the start button.

Ohright my order form states privacy glass is in the style pack, and yes forgot about the illuminated scuff plates. didn't realise it was free through finance, I was lucky enough to get mine for £15k :)
b1g_dav3
The interior quality is great, I've done 4.5k in my Diesel ZS and everything is rock solid really, none of the old rattles the Fiesta used to have, and everything is much nicer trimmed too. You also get a few bits like dual courtesy lights, dimming dash light switch and the odd other little bits of things. Much more comfortable too, although the ST seats are no comparison, they're incredibly comfortable and very supporting (so much so I hope someone writes one off soon so I can put the seats in my ZS :P), only let down if you see it that was is no full leather option which is ideal for me as I hate full leather seats in cars like that, and no cruise control which again isn't a deal for me as I hate the thing :P 16mpg average. Oops. I've only done 76 miles though, and I really gave it some on a car park that was set up for a track day thrashing it within an inch of it's life. And tore the front bumper off :P so I'm not the best to comment on this. Comparing to the ZS, it's firm but by no means harsh, and isn't really a lot more firm. But then again from a Focus for comfort down to the ST you'll notice it, best to test drive really.
Loz Cheung
Yes its keyless start, but not keyless entry where you can keep the key in your at all times :) thats good enough for me though! To be honest, i had no real reason to move from the Focus as it was fast/fun/good looking enough with no compromises. Blasting that around wales was an absolute belter; The longer wheelbase just makes it feel more grown up! However the Fiesta turns certain things up a notch and is that more exciting, the things that some people may find annoying coming from a Focus - practicality, refinement, noise - i seem to just lap up as its a riot in return! obviously this is still the honeymoon period so we'll have to see! Its one of those "head over heart" cliches! To be fair, youre not really losing out in keeping the Focus, as the longer you wait the more time the ST will iron out its teething issues (ive read some have had to take it back already) and they may throw in more kit as time goes by.....thats if you can wait though! You could just solve both and have a Focus ST though B)
