2 Questions From New Focus Owner

Featured Replies

Hi to you all, was hoping someone could help me out here. I recently test drove a used (18 months old) Focus 1.6TDCi Econetic from a used car dealer and really loved the feel of the car, such a difference from my old 2003 Fiesta! I am looking to buy this car from the dealer but have 2 minor concerns.

1, When I started the car up, a warning message came on informing that the car was due an oil change, not surprising due to the car having 22k on the clock. Part of the final deal is that the car will receive a full service so when I next start the car up, if the service has been carried out and the oil changed will the message have gone? Just wanting to make sure that the service has been carried out and the dealer doesn't give me some bull story if the oil change message is still there.

2, When I test drove the car, it was on reserve, just 24 miles fuel left, although I only drove about 6-8 miles on the test drive, the fuel really dropped, only 5 miles left on the display. I pointed this out to the dealer and he said it was due to running on reserve.

I have paid a £500 deposit on the car, am I within my rights to take it out again with more fuel in and test the fuel consumption, the dealer is close to a dual carriage way so a steady run at 50mph should give a better idea.

Thanks

1, Part of the service will be to reset the service interval message, so it should be gone when you get the car.

2, It probably dropped due to being driven with lower MPG running journey, afaik, you have no "rights" to take it out again, but there is no harm in asking the dealer, if they are reasonable it should be no problem.
