Jerking And Ht Leads

Featured Replies

Hey all, (1.8 04 petrol manual) 63k

When I come off the gas there is a gentle jerk does it all the time especially at slower speeds you notice it.

I was googling about and HT leads came up a lot. Should I replace the HT leads ? question is can I get away with non genuine ones for £25 from eurocarparts or do I need genuine ones for I think a whopping £80!

I changed the plugs last year and all other service bits minus the fuel filter as I didn't fancy tackling that bracket lol maybe this year. May even be the cause of issue ?

I read a few things about only use genuine stuff with these ford engines etc as something to do with damaging coils or something ?

Any advice would be great, seems a lot of money from fordd for a simple wire.

As pricey as it sounds using original HT and coil packs is always best, you'll get better results and a longer service life.

I was always told "buy cheap, buy twice".

The cheap ones cause more issues than they fix i doubt its the leads as youde feel it as you accelerate the fuel filter gets pretty manky and likely needs changed

I think I will start with the fuel filter then do the leads (genuine) ordered already ordered the bits from ford. Just head scratchung why the leads are so dear, but yge level of complaints or issues with non genuine parts coils and leads sounds like a headache and as stoney says buy cheap pay twice already made that error once so will no again. on 63k now iriginal leads and filter from what i know so due a change as a matter of course. cheers guys always helps having yhe voices of reason stop me buying cheap crap :b)

a jerk when you come off the gas, have you considered an engine or gearbox mount?

  • Author

Sorry tef didn't see your post, very good point. I can see the mount under the bonet left and right side but how do I check for play ? Try and rock it ?

Lol I guess the gearbox mount is on the gearbox daft question of the day, how's that one tested ?

New fuel filter is on not noticed any different sadly took me 2 hours shamefully, very fiddly tbh, and those clips are rubbish, not the best design idea, but you know me I whine about everything like the weather it's too hot hen its too cold, I'm a winger lol...

Hope you are all enjoying the heat bit hard out there today

Dioelectric grease on the leads is a good trick its what ford use but don't tell anyone also are the leads sitting firm on the plug some from new are a bit slack and need the connector squeezed with pliers to make it a tighter fit
