It must be the immobilizer then, it should illuminate then go out without flashing if its the same as the newer fiesta's. I searched the web and 3 flashes means that the key doesn't allow the immobilizer to deactivate, have you got another key to try? and is it a remote key, if so is the battery charged up.

a flat battery in the remote will not affect the immobiliser, its just a chip

hi there is no battery in the key its the solid plastic type i have another key but that does nothing either

hi went out to the car this morning little red light in the clock was flashing turned ignition on light stayed solid red for a couple of seconds then went out turned the key and she fired up seemed to run abit rough but not been started for 2 weeks tuned ff and on 4 or 5 times no problem left it for about an hour turned ignition on red light solid again got ignition lights but nothing when you turn to start now , really doing my head in .

possibly the switch on the ignition

take the cowling off around the column and give the plastic switch on the steering lock a wiggle as you turn the key, quite common for switch to have an internal bad connection...if so, theyre are reasonably cheap and simple to change.

while your at it, you'll see the immobiliser pick up ring around the ignition barrel once you have the cowling off, just make sure its secure and wires are well connected...

I don't want to sound stupid but the book with my car says that holding the key in a certain way can affect de activation, if the sensors in the dash are on the way out perhaps this isn't helping.

hi ive found that the smaller connection on the starter motor has no power to it when ignition on if you bridge it with the large connection starter operates, ignition switch has constant power on the red wire and when you switch ignition on yellow wire is live so i assume switch is ok,cheers

Is yellow ignition wire or starter wire?

Small wire on starter gets a feed when you turn key to start not when ignition is on

If you still have no supply then same test again but at the ignition switch

hi i had to admit defeat and get a diagnostics check done which came back with transponder out of range which means taking the car to ford and getting it all reprogrammed which will cost more than cars worth ive seen ecu sets on ebay where you get ecu+transponder+key for £40-£60 anybody know if this will work and what i should look out for, cheers

"transponder out of range", means the ECU isn't picking up the coding from the chip, as wase16ll has said it's possibly the pick up ring around the ignition barrel behind the cowling that's at fault.

Nip down your local scrappy's and acquire one from them, and give that a try
