2005 Focus Does Not Start. Help / Suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am hoping someone out there might be able to help.

I tried to start my 2005 Focus (old model) yesterday and it was completely dead. Not even a ticking noise. The car had only been idle for 5 days. It has done roughly 75000 miles.

I only replaced the battery a few months ago so I don't think that is the problem. Has this happened to anyone else or know what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!

when you tried to start the car, did you get any flickers on the dashboard, or any clicks from the glove box?

Did anything daft (like leaving the lights on anywhere) possibly drain the battery...

I charged the battery at the weekend and the car started, but 2 days later it's dead again.

I think the problem must be with the alternator. I'm just hoping it won't be too expensive to repair!

Go and get it checked, if you have a multimeter put on battery whist running, you should see about 13 volts, if its 12volts or under its not charging.

Alternators, as they are smart charge would be replaced at about £600 or there abouts including labour (at a dealership).

I think though you may have more drain and less charge, so I would consider checking if there is anything that could be draining the battery.

Have you had the battery light come on at all at anytime you have been driving?

recon alternator knocks you back £110 fitted, well mine did anyway.... the only way we new alternator was out, batt light permantly on, eml light was on, and alternator was whining like a turbo on its way.....
