Foucs Abs

Featured Replies

hi all

am newbie here and ive just got my first ever ford which is a 2001 ford focus lx 1.6

what am wanting to know is, has this got ABS as the wheel bearing is shot and i need to know if my car has or has not got ABS, there no ABS light when starting the car, but being me, the bulb mite have gone, so i just need to 100% confirm before i buy a bearing

thank you

a lot of the focus' didn't have abs.

have a look under the bonnet for the abs pump or failing that turn the wheels full lock and have a peek and see if you can see any wires going to where the sensors should be

to be true full mate, i woulden know where to look or what to look for, ive been on ebay and my model says it has ABS but other places say no, so am right confuzed lol

many think that abs was standard on the Focus - which it wasn't

If you have a look on ebay for an abs pump and then have a look at the back of your engine bay for the pump - you will know for sure then.

thhats a good idea, will do it when the kids go to bed, so its at the back of the engine right

Yes, behind the engine close to the bulkhead, you will see (green) pipes about 5m diameter going in an out of it and a large electrical connector. im not sure of the exact position (despite having a 2001 1.6)

It's quite an easy thing to spot really.

if you have abs then the pump & module as you look under the bonnet to your right rear under the fuse box, its a bit hard to spot but as has been stated you will see about 6 brake pipes on the top & a black pump on the side of it.

just had a look and cant find nothing with small pipes or something what looks like a ABS unit so am take that its a none ABS

as Stef said, turn the wheels fully to one direction. If you look behind the wheel, you should see a wire coming down next to the suspension, and then seemingly "plugging into" an area behind the disk. If you dont see these, its just further confirmation its not got ABS.
