Help With Engine Is 2.2 Block The Same As A 2.0

Featured Replies

Hi all new member so please bear with me, i bought a replacement engine for my 2.2 mondeo however when it arrived it has 2.0 on the side of the block and the seller says thats right as they are the same blocks so is that right ??

are you going to transplant the whole engine or just the block ? as the 2.2 works on a longer stroke than the 2.0 also the ecu fuel maps are different.

I bought the whole bare engine as a 2.2 to bolt all my 2.2 parts onto as my 2.2 was knackerd but the new one has 2.0 on the block so worried my injecters etc will not be the right ones but the seller says the engine is a 2.2 ??

I heard its the same block cant remember if its the pistons that are slightly smaller

On the mk3 Mondeo - (2000-2007) -

The block, pistons, valves, head, pistons, bore are basically the same, on the 2.0 and 2.2

The main difference between the 2.0L and 2.2L is the crank, that has a bigger offset on the 2.2 to get a longer stroke

However, if i needed a new engine i would swap like for like (eg - Euro4 2.2 for Euro4 2.2. Euro3 2.2 for Euro3 2.2) otherwise you are going to give yourself a lot of hassle.

EG - the Euro4 has an electronic turbo actuator the Euro3 has a pnumatic one, the EGR system is different too

Also - the injectors are coded to the ECU (so best to get the ECU that came with the engine, and all the door locks) - if not it may trip the immobilisor/ you may need to get it re-coded etc or use the injectors off the old engine (to start with, anyway)
