Hi, im having an issue with the wife's car and i'm just wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem. She has a Focus, a 1.8 'Y' reg Zetec model and i've found that as you slow down at a junction, the engine cuts out, just before you become stationary. It starts up again easy enough but it happens say 1 in every 10 junctions.

Its been to the local general garage and on the engine management machine and he says that it comes back as having no faults. He thinks it will be a sensor but it would be guess work as to which one needs replacing so advised against going down the randowm replacement route. Any ideas?

The idle control valve or the vehicle speed sensor if the speedo drops to zero its the speed sensor it can happen whilst driving also the needle will just drop even though youre moving if you do the dash trick and go to rpm it should be between 670-730 with a warm engine rev it to 2000 rpm if the rpm drops to 600 or lower then struggles to get up to normal its the idle control valve neither give fault codes there is also a vacume hose at the rear of the throttle body which gets soft and collapses if thats the case you rev the engine whilst looking at the hose and youll see it collapse

can be a number of things, I would start by checking the fuel filter, and perhaps looking to replace it. as your slowing down and gearbox braking you can create a vacuum that may suck air into the fuel lines / filter, which is then injected into the cyclinders, and as air doesnt burn, the car cuts out.
