Ford Focus Rpm Issue

Featured Replies

Just got a 1.6 X reg foCUS

it revs at at least 12-1600 and when stationary surges to 2500 3000 rpm for Ten seconds before settling back down to 12-1600

anyone have any ideas where to start

Danny

Idle control valve.

Looking at the front of the engine, it is on the right hand side. cylinder shaped with electrical connector in it's LHS.

Clean internally or replace. Never needed to do it myself so cannot advise further but is the usual start point for this problem.

Yeah I cleaned that out and it seemed in good condition

The only other thing is it is a lot worse when the weather is warm

If its cold out then it doesnt play up as much till the engines warm

I would replace it, sounds like its got a faulty / brittle wire that is causing the issue.
