Coil Pack Advice!

Featured Replies

Hi

I have recently been trying to sort out my engine woes in relation to accelerating and rough engine.

I have changed the plugs and leads and this did sort out the issue, but after a week i can feel the engine is starting to go back to how it was. Feels like it runs on 3 cylinders and looses power and mpg drops.

Now i have had an oil change today (got a garage to put some magnatec in and it feels alot better) but i told the garage about the engine and how i changed the plugs and leads, and he said that he would normally changed the coil pack too as fords do seem to break alot of coil packs.

Anyway he said that it would be better to put a £35 coil pack in and not to bother with a genuine ford one, is this advisable or should i stick to ford parts. I have used genuine plugs and leads so far.

I can pick up a genuine coil pack from my local ford garage for 65 quid inc vat, but how easy are they to fit, is it a diy job or is it a garage job. Or should i just buy a cheaper one.

Also aswell on my coil pack in my car now, it says its manufactured by bosch, are the original ones made by bosch or is that an aftermarket part

The garage i used was my local hiq centre, and blokes there are pretty honest and trustworthy.

Finally my car is a 2010 ford focus 1.6 petrol zetec.

Any ideas then

Bosch is the genuine ford one as are the leads on ebay youll find a genuine bosch one for around £30 thats what i put in mine they ate right i assumed you were changing the coil pack as well as i replaced leads plugs and coil

I did the plugs and leads as a first step hoping it cured it but looks like the gremlins are still there so going to go for a coil pack too. Are the cheaper priced bosch ones just as good as the genuine ones even though they are still bosch

They are the same ones you just arent paying fords over inflated prices the coil has a part number on it cross reference it with the one on ebay they are genuine bosch the whole systems bosch plugs leads coil and battery this is it same for all years if you check the part number with ures http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/181077062478?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1

If you look at the genuine leads and plugs you see boschs symbol but fords branding they are all bosch all the same no difference at all

That looks a great price, is it an easy ish job to fit, doesn't look to difficult, or it there any pitfalls to watch out for. Or is it best to get a mechanic to fit

do it youre self t25 torq screw bit 4 of them to remove and the plug at the side to disconnect swap over refit and reconnect thats it

+1 - Agreed, any fault/s in the plugs or ht leads tends to "take out" the coil packs

As mentioned in many other threads check the plugs are gapped to 1.0mm not 1.3mm (which they may be pre- gapped to)
