Key Fobs

hi all i recently bought a focus and the previous owner lost the key fob and i only have a normal key for it and was wondering where to go to get a key fob and is it easy to set it to my car by myself or does ford have to set it to my car, appreciate any help :)

I recommend that you buy a replacement key off eBay and then approach a couple of Auto Locksmiths for a quote to cut and programme it to your car.

On the MK1/1.5 there is the option to add keys yourself but to open the programming without an IDS terminal you need two programmed keys to unlock the learning phase.

As you only now have one key the option to self-programme is not available to you.

Some high street key cutters offer Ford key cutting and programming but TBH is best avoided as they only clone the PATSII (immobiliser) code onto the chip rather that adding it to the car as an unique key.

Two good things about adding a second unique key to the car are that with two unique keys you can add more yourself for free and also that any keys not in your posession (i.e. lost ones) can be removed from the system thus preventing the lost key 'turning up' on a dark and quiet night.
