Focus T Reg Smokes When Cold !

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, i am new one here :) Livin in Southampton, driving T reg 1.8 tddi focus - LOVE it to bits !!!

Bought my beloved focus last year and since then i had this problem - when i start it cold it smokes with grey smoke (smells like proper diesel fumes) and lil bit slow until reaches 2 revs (turbo comes into play) and then car runs smooth, just smokes.. BUT when it warms up - smoke disappears

i just cant really understand what is it.. Some people tell me its injectors, some again are tryin to convince me its glow plugs, dirty EGR ..

Maybe someone had similar problem and what it might be? I just cant fix it all :D would appreciate if someone could help me

thanks in advance,

Rolly

do you get a very poor MPG? or any other symptoms?

do you get a very poor MPG? or any other symptoms?

i would say its economical, cause i can go like 40 miles a gallon (i am driving like 25% highways and 75% in the city)

so i would say its not cylinder (it would it more if one would be dead)

It really seems like its sucking in too much diesel and it cant burnt it, so literally blowing it out through exaust :( (fumes)

when i bought it, it had sports air filter, so thought maybe airflow sensor is dead and giving wrong info thats why its pouring diesel in too much, changed to standard one plus bought new airflow sensor, nothing changed :(

if you put in a new air filter, and clean the MAF sensor with electrical contact cleaner, that will help to make sure its usable! I wonder if you have a split pipe somewhere. When the engine is revved (say 8-900 revs - do you hear a whistle or woosh under the bonnet?

well mate, i have only 7 revs on the clock :) I did up to 5 and half, roars and roars.. smoothly loudly roars .. I cant hear any whistle or woosh. U had in mind turbo has gone or head gasket? well, the smoke is greyish, and temp is constantly is in the middle, it doesnt overheat.. aaaaaaargh, i dont know :)

but anyways, thanks for help and ideas...

So you hit 5 thousand revs, id suggest pop bonnet and get someone to lightly accelerae.my suspicion is that you have a cracked pipe or hose, cheap and easy fix for some of them.
