No Rear Wiper Mot Question

Featured Replies

Apparently if you have a flat spare wheel in the boot you can fail an MOT, but if you have no wheel at all you cant be failed.

So if i remove the rear wiper totally and fit a blanking plug into the rear window will it pass?

Cos not every car has a rear wiper

If the wiper is fitted then it must work.

No wiper = no problems.

Mine passed with the rear wiper blanked, it was not even an "advisory"

rear wipers are not checked/tested in mot tests

rear wipers are not checked/tested in mot tests

Im in N.Ireland, and over here it's strict as we have government run testing centers only, which will fail you for anything to make money on retests.

Not sure it the rules are exactly the same or not?

in that case not sure, unless the test is VOSA in which case should be the same..

besides, wouldnt have thought rear wipers would ever be classed as a safety/essential item...but why not google test requirements in NI

Tried test requirements in NI, but its not specific on that.

very much doubt its part of the test then

Apart from the wiper itself, there may be rules about all the switches working (eg - if there is a "rear wiper" switch on the dash or column) it may be if there is a marked switch, it has to work, so you may have to remove or cover up the switch

just had a quick look on nidirect.gov.uk site, no mention of rear wipers/controls so think your ok...

rear wipers arent considered a safety item
