Hi all

I am new here but hoping someone may be able to help.

I have a SportKa 57 plate and last night the heated screen at front was only functioning on the drivers side.

Without breaking the screen myself - as if - and claiming a new screen on insurance....

Does anyone have any knowledge on this ? Hoping its gonna be an easy cheap fix.......

Thanks a million

i know on the mondeo that the heated screen has a fuse for each side, the ka is most likly the same so check the fuse first,it could also be a wiring problem under the scuttle panel at the base of the windscreen.

Hi Fiona and welcome to the club. I'm sure someone else will confirm this but I think the heated screens have a separate fuse for each side?

Fingers crossed. If not it could be a break in the wire going into that side of the screen. May be worth checking too!

I had the same issue after my windscreen was replaced, Its more likely that the connection under the windscreen to the wiring most likely has come loose. I had to get a soldering iron and solder the wire directly onto the ribbon to make a contact. Did the job nicely!

to do it, you need to remove the wipers and scuttle panels to get at the wiring and you can see if its immediately apparent.

They are separately fused, but I doubt it's the fuse (and even if it was, fuses don't normally blow for no reason).

If it's the same as the Mondeo (and I'd guess it is), Ford designed it so that the wiring is wide-open to the elements, which causes it to corrode, and consequently fail. When it happened to me, the Ford dealer I got the car from two weeks earlier told me to chuck a brick through it and claim off the insurance. He only relented and agreed to replace the screen after I demanded my £4,500 back (which I'd paid in full).

When the same thing happened again less than a year later, I was set to just live with it. Was quite pleased when something hit it going up the A1 one day.
