1K Mondeotdci?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Looking for a cheap and reliable diesel for the next 12 months with an average mpg of 45+

Peugeot 306D could be a contestant but not too sure on reliability due to common electrical issues.

My dad had Mondeo for as long as I can remember and it seems a good choice for me too.

Budget would be 1K max, not buying from e-bay.

Any though? Anything to be concerned about?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the club! Good luck finding a mondeo!

Have a look in the mondeo section, but getting a very reliable mondeo, with that excellent MPG and doing it for £1k will be a tall ask unfortunately.

Thanks guys.

the reason for looking for a diesel or 12 months is that I' currently in the process of applying for a different position within my company (maternity cover) had a second interview today and I was informed of some extra benefits which could potentially increase my budget to 3K!this would obviously increase my chances to get a better motor even (hopefully) an ST TDCI :)

Its possible to get really decent cars for very little money - its just luck, i suppose, but if you buy it cheap enough you have less to loose - higher milage cars often have their problems sorted / have new parts like DMFs etc, and can often be better buys than lower mileage cars

My mate bought a good one for £500 (Mondeo mk3 2.0 2000/ 130k short MOT/ tax ) it ran very well, he only changed it because he wanted something faster (i suggested a remap or tuning box, but he bought an M3 instead  )

The Mondeo is a good, practical, reasonably economical car when its going well and you would prpbably have to spend quite a bit more to get better

DMFs can play up, and injectors, (both expensive repairs) later cars have an electronic turbo actuator, it can play up/ and can be an expensive fix, handbrakes can play up but are not expensive to fix, the bushes can go in the estates rear suspension and it is fairly expensive to fix -

Most of these faults are on a par with other "modern" cars (the Mondeo is about as reliable/ more riliable than other makes) and the problems usually don't surface untill 100k+, but because Mondeos were so popular (a favorite with taxi drivers/ fleets and the most popular car in its class at one time) you read of all these problems on the net/ on forums all the time and it may give a false impression thet the Mondeo is less reliable than it is

Ive had my mk3 Mondeo for 8+ years now, and its still going strong and has never let me down, even when the DMF started breaking up - (ok, so its had a couple of / modifications/ new parts  )
