Hi all - Im a newbie

we bought a 2008 1.4 Zetec yesterday and noticed that after taking the key out the Dashboard light remained on (the one showing the mileage).

I hung around whilst waiting and even after 10 mins the light was on.

Is this normal? should I have checked something?

Am worried if this drains the battery?

any ideas?

thanks!

Hello,

when switching off the car and just pulling out the key, the dashlights will remin on and will for around 15 mins untill they switch of to save power. when you lock the car the lights should then switch of.

this is normal i believe for any modern day car

However I understand now that they its been on far longer than a half hour. My other half went to check on the car after me...

no prob.

it is a bit of a pain and unsure why it does it but i also have a 2008 focus that does this and stays on for a long periods of time, my fiesta dosent tho :s, like you say for 30 mins or so, it does evetually go off. as i say my focus does this and its never drained the battery but wouldnt like to confim to you as i dont want it cathcing you out one day. and then you coming to me and blaming me hehe!!

but maybe speak to a ford dealership and just ask and see if its meant to,

i hope this answers your question.

I wouldn't worry that screen won't use enough power to cause any battery issues even if it was on all night I wouldn't have thought it will do any damage.

I have a 2009 Fiesta Zetec. The dashboard lights come on several days after the car has been locked.I open the car and re lock it and they go off.The car has been into Fords for diagnostics and 3 error codes came up but the guy who did the test could not find what they were so contacted Fords technical team who did not know either. They suggested turning off the bluetooth because this can cause problems.I had the car back and after 4 weeks the lights came on again.Fords had the car back but still could not find the fault.I have tried all I can even locking the car with the key and not setting the immobiliser in case the remote  was causing the lights coming on.Anyone else had this problem and solved it. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have now named my car Herbie because it has a mind of it's own.

Same problem with me......it's the flat battery in the morning that's killing. Still can't find answers.

I have resolved this issue about dashboard lights coming on when car locked. 2 things. On the positive battery terminal there are 2 nuts. One clamps the positive terminal to the battery , the other has 3 leads secured. This nut was loose. Tightened up. (The leads connected to this have something to do with the electronics of the car) The other thing was the boot open warning light was on constantly. ( intermittent before this). The boot latch lock was changed, problem solved .No more dashboard lights on, no more drained battery .Hope this helps all of you who have the same problem. Fords could not solve the problem, a friend of mine did. He is a hero.
