Poor Mpg On My New Ford Fiesta 1.0 80Ps Zetec

Featured Replies

I am a new member, so appologies if this topic has already been covered. I have a brand new Ford Fiesta 1.0 80ps (petrol) Zetec Start/Stop, since ~2 weeks and driven ~400 miles. Very happy with the car, but no matter how careful I drive (keeping an eye on the revs and the speed), I cannot get a decent mpg, i.e. no where near the spec. of 55mpg urban, 74mpg extra urban and 65mpg combined. I am getting ~40mpg Urban (at ave. 25 mph), ~55mpg extra urban (ave. 55mph) and about ~47mpg combined, i.e. about ~18mpg below the spec. Surely this can't be normal. What fuel economy do you get out of your Fiesta? Please note, that I have driven cars for over 25 years! I appreciate any feedback/comments and thank you in advance. Kind regards, Fred.

Unfortunately sometime you can find that manufacturers claims are over exaggerated. They usually test them in ideal laboratory conditions :(

You may find for the first few thousand miles you get terrible mpg. I didn't see over 50mpg until after about 8000 miles...

40MPG urban?

Peh, count yourself lucky! I struggle to get > 25 MPG in urban conditions. :(

Even though modern cars are worked in before sale they still have a certain thousand miles before they are properly worked in before this the car wont be at smooth and economical as it can be. Very normal for a new car
