Key Transponder

Featured Replies

is it correct that a key transponder can only be programmed once then its locked out?

I dont believe so... The transponder sends a signal, the car just needs to learn that when it hears that signal, it opens the doors.

There is no reason at all that the transponder on the key should not be pairable to another car (certainly not that I have heard of!)

Why do you say that?

to be honest i thought it was not right, but needed to ask, here is the link.

http://www.lockmanuk.com/service.php?menuitem=28

this is what it says,

Note:

Do not buy second-hand Ford car keys or van keys from eBay or scrap yards as these keys cannot be programmed into another Ford car or van. Each key has a transponder chip which can only be coded once after which it is locked out.

If you have any doubts call Lockman UK and we will be happy to go over all your options.

whats the correct answer, mmmmmmm.

hmmm....

I am unsure, I have heard something not too disimilar, but I cant understand the logic behind it...

Do you actually have another key?

yes james bought one off ebay for the electronics, and a new case with a blank key, which i have to get cut, now i am not to sure if it will start the car if i go ahead.

Once you start the car into learning mode you should be able to code the transponder from there.

Have you done the old on/off in quick succession and getting the car into learning mode.

to be honest james have not attempted it yet, just checking to make sure i dont waste my money.

You should be able to, I think what it means is "dont buy used keys" rather than dont buy any. If its not cut and brand new, it should be fine.

Then as long as you have the keys (inlcuding the red key?) then you just switch the keys from 0-2 a few times, put the car into learning mode, then stick your newly cut key into there, do a few twizzles and jobs a good 'un,

thanks james, will try that when i get it cut, although when i bought the car there was no red key, just one which opens the door normal, and one remote key.

In that case, you might have to get someone out to do it for you. Normally you get a training key (with a red tab on it) this would be used to tell your car to learn a new key... When you get the new key, dont get it cut just yet. Call a few local locksmiths and see if any of them can do it without the red key, I am sure they should be able to.

I have been told that 2nd hand keys will code, but im not 100% on it, the remote can easily be programmed but yet to find out personally if a 2nd hand chip will, ive just got a replacement key myself and had a blade cut for it, gonna try to program it with IDS but im worried il mess it up then il have no car

Usually if it's a glass chip then you can reprogramme them, the newer 'carbon' chips can't AFAIK.
