What oil type and any tips on oil change?

Featured Replies

Am doing an Oil change on my 2005 1.6 Focus tomorrow. Not sure what oil to get though? 5w30? 10w40?

Any special instructions for the oil change or is it just the standard method?

5W30 semi or fully synthetic mate. Same as any oil change really.

its recommended you use 5w30 oil. fully synthetic will be best but more expensive than part synthetic. personally i change my oil every 6k miles.

I'm sure I've got some 10w40 knocking about and was hoping to use that. Not much between them so may well still use it ?

It's only a 1.6 runabout

Two replies and both telling you to use 5/30 oil, and you're still going to put 10/40 in?

You need 5/30. 10/40 is the wrong oil.

5/30 and 10/40 are hardly worlds apart.

No but they are still differant...Use 5/30, and put the 10/40 in your lawn mower :P

10/40 is too heavy for the zetec engine. AGAIN 5/30 fully or semi synthetic or you'll cause yourself problems. 10/40 used to be used in older Ford diesel engines but even modern diesels use 5/30 now.

In my opinion when dealing with oil its almost like car colours you say its topaz blue but decide to use midnight blue , yes their both blue but totally different make ups.

just go to your nearest ford dealer they put in your reg and give you the correct oil and daft as it sounds its cheaper than halfords...

use whats being said in the replies. also try and stick to the same grade and type of oil all the time, ie semi used before then use semi all the time. ive heard that changing to say, synthetic after using semi all the time is not good as the tolerences in the engine adjust to the type of oil that you use
