serbusfish
Super annoyed, what should have been a ten second job has proved to be impossible without seemingly taking the dash apart. For some reason the right side of the ford stereo wont release (I have the correct unlocking keys). Ive tried forcing screwdrivers in the holes and down the sides of the unit, even a guy from Halfords had a go but couldn't do it. Now it looks like ive got to either book it in at Halfords or take it to a Ford garage... so angry, I really wanted this done today! /rant
jamesm182
Don't take it to Halfrauds they don't know what they're doing. If you persist with it then it should come out eventually. The mk6 Fez stereo is notoriously awkward to remove.
Stoney871
Try freeing off the stiff side first. Also try pushing on the front of the radio before moving the keys to reduce the pressure on the clips. I found that steak knives are actually better at releasing the clips than the keys because they are narrower and go in better.

The mk6 Fez stereo is notoriously awkward to remove. Well ive been trying since 2pm and just cant get it to budge, even my dad had a go and had no luck (his brute force normally fixes most things!) The left side pops out easy as anything but the right side will not move at all. Honestly dont understand it. Try freeing off the stiff side first. Cheers for the advice but still no joy :( I've phoned my local ford dealer who said they will have a look at it, if the mechanism is broken they'll most likely need to remove parts of the dash to get it out which im sure will cost me an arm and a leg. MarkRaff
I had trouble with mine also tried for hours but took it to Halfords and the guy done it in under 2 minutes. The top left was a bit fiddley but he obviously knew what he was doing. It is a pain when they get stuck I feel for you mate
gerq
Stick your hand through the glovebox and to the back of the unit. while manoeuvring the keys about push it from the back. Worked for me!

Worked for me! I was trying that actually (its what the Halfords guy suggested) but no luck. If I could get my hand around the other side I might have more luck. BTW now I think about it, if I do manage to get the damn thing out does anyone know where I can get one of the triangle shaped brackets that screws to the back of aftermarket head units? (I assume i'll need one for this car)
serbusfish
Well I had to take it to the ford dealer as it just wasnt coming out. They did it, though with difficulty im told. Apparantly the pins had been bent which is why it wouldn't release. They only charged me £10 so im glad I didnt go back to Halfords which would have cost £30 - £60. The sound quality difference with the kenwood unit is very noticable, mucher punchier and dynamic. Im now just wondering whether to upgrade the Speakers or not..
