Checking For Heated Windscreen Wiring Loom (2009 Model)

Hi all.

I recently bought a second hand 2009 hatchback Focus. It was a Cat C wright off, with front end damage.

I was expecting it to be fitted with a heated windscreen as it has the button for it fitted on the dash and it was advertised with it being fitted; however after further examination it has become apparent that the screen doesn't have the heating elements in it.

I'm considering the purchase of a heated screen, but before I do I need to confirm whether the wiring is present. Does the presence of the button mean that at one point there was a heated windscreen fitted (then replaced with a non-heated screen after its accident) and that the required wiring is present, or that it may never have had one at all? If it could be either option, what is the easiest method for checking for the required wiring?

Many thanks.

You should be able to see the wiring connections under the bonnet to the very far right/left under the wipers. Ilso check if the fuse's are present , if you find the wires then you can test if voltage is there when you hit the switch

Not all had heated screens and not all had the loom fitted retrofit isnt worth the cost or hassle as above tge wiring will be evident pop the button out if theres wires to it that's a start youll have heated mirrors and washers too so if theres wiring to the washers youve likely got the windscreen

It looks like I've got wiring present for heated washer jets. I looked at the far right and left for redundant wiring for the screen but couldn't see anything obvious.

Can you tell me exactly where I should be looking? Thanks.

The light on the heated windscreen light lights up when pressed, I assume that covers the wiring to that being present.

Sounds highly possible that at some time the windscreen was replaced and due to the higher cost of a heated one the previous owner opted for a standard one instead.

To find the wiring you will need to remove the front wiper arms and the plastic scuttle panel on each corner of the frame just below the screen will be the electric wiring if you have it then yes you can put in a heated screen however they arent cheap and the original may have been faulty or the wiring faulty ive seen people pay £290 for the screen £140 for fitting to find the wiring is faulty add another £100 or more for that

Thanks so much for the help guys. I think I've found the wiring that powered the previous screen as shown in the pic.

I couldn't see much, but the end of the element has clearly been sheared off when the old screen was removed. The block the element is connected to (also just visible in the pic) is in turn connected to a cable. Does this cable come with a replacement screen or will it be an addition?
