Heater Noise

My better half's 06 fiesta seems to have developed a strange whine when the heaters are on.

Any ideas about what this could be?

The heater works fine in that it still kicks out heat but this whining noise is annoying her.

It doesn't bother me but there we go! :-)

    Could be a dirty pollen filter reducing airflow or leaves/general crud obstructing a vent somewhere.

    Could also possibly be a disconnected/leaking vent pipe inside the dash.

    It could be a blower motor also... They do tend to go and whine.

    Also does the noise increase as the speed of the fan is increased/decreased or even off but driving at speed and does it to it on all direction settings?
