Adding 12V To Glovebox Ford Focus Estate

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I have an Aux port (see picture below) in my glove box i wonder how easy it would be to add a 12 v cigarette lighter power adaptor into the glove box so i can keep my ipod charged as i use it.

there looks to be a section which could be removed (notched plastic) next to the aux port.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

William

It might be possible as the internal fuse box is directly below, on mine I routed a 3.5mm cable from the socket, back into the glove box and back up under my arm rest. I also did this with an iPod cable from the 12v, through the centre console and back up under the arm rest. iPod can sit in the cup holders and nice tidy wiring.

You can take a piggyback off an existing socket but as yours is a MK2.5 there isn't an easily accessible socket in the front cubbyhole as in a MK2 so a long feed would be required.

If you have a front socket on your centre console then access is pretty easy, if you only have the rear one under your armrest (I.E. if you have keyless ignition) then a longer wire is needed but still pretty straightforward.

You can undo two screws at the back of the console (under the hinges for the armrest) and have access to the connector on the rear socket to splice off a wire to run back down the console and up the inside of the dash to your glovebox.

Also the problem with fitting a socket into the place you were thinking of is that when you close the glovebox anything plugged in there would be in the way.

Maybe a better idea would be a socket set further back inside the glovebox?

Something like this maybe?-

Interesting ! When I got the car I replaced a panel in the centre console that had a hole in it behind that where two wires maybe I could fit a USB charging port there.

My phone has just gone bonkers so I hope this makes sense .
