St Starting Issue

Featured Replies

Hi All,

This hasn't developed in to an actual issue yet, but i'm worrying that it will...

Sometimes when I get in my car and start it, it sounds like the battery is on the low side. I press the POWER button and the car starts, but to me it sounds like it's nearly struggling to turn over. This is odd as the car is only about a month old, and a voltage check on the battery show's that it isn't low.

I can't replicate the issue properly either, sometimes it happens from cold, sometimes when the engine is still hot/warm. Which in my opinion rules out the "cold outside, thicker oil" explanation.

I don't want to take it to my dealer because I know that it's bound to not happen when i'm there so it will be a wasted trip. Doesn't effect the performance of the car at all, I just wondered if anyone has any ideas as to what might be causing this...

Also, not showing any error codes or anything.

Thanks.

Had mine for three weeks now and it's always seemed to be a relaxed starter. Might just be a characteristic of the car as it's not been a problem for me. Have you considered changing wher you refuel and maybe try a higher octane/super unleaded to see if it improves?

Hmm fair enough.

I've only ever run Super unleaded in it, and i've varied where I get it from (I use Momentum 99 from Tesco now), and that doesn't seem to make a difference...

Maybe it's just the characteristic of the car, like you said!

As the dealer put standard unleaded in when I picked up the car, I've kept to the same. Have read on other sites that you get slightly better performance with the higher octane fuel, but I'll try that another time when I can appreciate any slight differences more easily.

I would check the battery connections are tight. My mate had problems with a brand new Focus and it seems that they didn't tighten the connections up at the factory.

Yeah my dealer did brim the tank with standard unleaded for me, but as soon as i'd burnt through that nice and slowly I've been sticking the the high octane stuff... And I haven't noticed the price increase seeing as premium is now the price that standard was about a month or two ago haha.

Ok thanks I'll give them a check tonight.

That wouldn't have been something that I'd think of checking, purely because it's so new.. but I guess anything is possible.
