Connor2x4
Hi all! Am new to the forum and have a old Mk4 Fiesta, 1.25 16v as my first car (woohoo) I've added a few slight things to the car since I got it back in May (nothing major yet though!) Here's an image from the day I got it

jamesm182
Hi Connor welcome to the club! Sounds like a nice little car to start you off!
Connor2x4
Thanks for all the welcomes :) Its a great little runner that I've named optimus prime haha. The freedom is great, however to keep insurance costs down I've gone with ingenie which means I've got a black box in it which kinda sucks, and the insurance was still £1700! Daytime robbery I'm sure
jeebowhite
Hi Connor, Welcome to the family! as for the insurance, be careful and read the small print. I have heard a few bad stories wereby someone exceeded the speed limit by 2mph and the insurance was cancelled, Make sure you read the small print in great detail and know all the limitations of the policy! Thanks for the heads up! Didn't read anything like that, will have to check current policy. I get feedback every 10 days and even though it says I speed sometimes, I think thats alright as long as I'm not involved in an accident of anykind, otherwise then I think I'll be naffed
jeebowhite
Well, will be worth hearing some sort of feedback from the black box and how it affects you?
Connor2x4
It has 4 main areas; Cornering, Acceleration, Braking and Speed. And it ranks them from black (Serious), through red, amber and green. I have never had a green message for cornering, but speed, accelerating and braking are usually amber upwards. In my first 3 months they gave back £30 odd against my insurance but the second quarter I was charged an extra £20 for too many red/amber messages. ed12
Does the box limit your driving hours?.. Imo that traffic light system is the wrong way around ;)
Connor2x4
Does the box limit your driving hours?.. Imo that traffic light system is the wrong way around ;) No there is no curfew, although I'm a bit peeved with them today, asked how much my premium would go up by, by adding manufacturers stock alloy wheels, and they say its classed as a modification and would cancel my insurance, so am not too chuffed with that! Haha I know, but if it keeps my first premium down and stops me from being daft, then I guess its worth it for now lol
ed12
Is there any way to prove what alloys it was on when leaving the factory? Providing they were in the options list mind! Due to the stock wheels not being on the car, what is it on at the moment?

Due to the stock wheels not being on the car, what is it on at the moment?I'm not sure what was on as it came out of the factory, I'm currently looking for the handbook (its in the house somewhere!) Currently ive just got some crappy wheels with trims. The only thing I was thinking is if I were to be in an accident and pictures were took, if I have alloys on I don't know whether they would void the insurance then Hi George :)
jeebowhite
Generally you have to assume that if you have an accident, assume the worst - the police will come out, take photo's statements, map the scene etc so every detail is recorded. That way you know how to proceed and make sure that your car is in the most unsurance friendly and not voidable way :) Given the age of the car though, I dont believe that the engine and age combination would allow you to have alloy wheels as standard, and so the insurers would probably void the claim as you have not disclosed all information. Connor2x4
Aaaah, been a while since I seen any of those! What model Fiesta do you have? I have a 97, p reg mk4 si, 16v. its a 1.25 (zetec i think) engine. Unless they only came out for the Ghia model or something, I still can;t find my owners manual :(
jeebowhite
I think it would have been at least the zetec or ghia onwards. I think the si would not have had it at least.

jeebowhite
to be honest, I dont know how much of a difference those particular alloys will make, but in the winter period anyway, your better off with steels. They are stronger and less likely to damage in any way from bumps.
