Elderly Fiesta

Featured Replies

Hello

new to forum so bear with me please.

My wife runs a elderly 2002 fiesta 1.25 zetec which has recently taken to quitting after driving about 3 miles,it kangaroos the last 100yds and then stops completely, engine management light comes on,after sitting for an hour it will restart only to do the same again, any ideas? ..I suspect fuel filter, can anyone tell me where its situated, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

When the car stops, try removing the petrol filler cap. It could be that the vent is blocked so as petrol is being drawn into the engine, its causing a vacuum in the tank eventually stopping the flow of fuel. If that's the case, you'll hear a hissing noise as the cap comes off. Not sure if the cap itself is vented or there is a seperate vent pipe, but that would be my first action.

Sounds like a fuel or air pressure problem.

Do you get any strong fuel smells while driving?

Could be overfuelling due to reduced airflow into the engine.

Check the throttle body for blockages and the O2 sensors for function.

If the MIL light is coming on then there may be readable fault codes being generated.

Get a garage to run a diagnostics check for you.

Also sounds like it could be the crankshaft sensor if these have one fitted.
