Cree Nightmare

Featured Replies

So I bought some Cree 501 sidelights cos my led 'error free' ones were flashing and I'm sure a few drivers in front of me were having a disco at my expense.

Opened the bonnet and started loosening the retaining bolt. Half way through my cheap asda socket set decided to come apart. It subsequently fell into the engine compartment and out of sight. Luckily I heard it land on the plastic undertray. This is where the effin and jeffin began. Carried on regardless.

Then took out the disco lights and popped in the crees. Wow how bright? Tried pushing through the hole for sidelights. Wouldn't fit through. More expletives. Wiggled it a bit and the bulb fell through into the main light section. So had to turn light upside down and shake it back through. Luckily it came through. In the end I pushed it back in and secured with a small amount of duct tape and held it in place to push through.

Finally got it in and looked great. Lesson learnt for passenger side so that was a lot quicker.

I then decided to replace footwear lights with led ones I'd taken out. First one came out and was a bit warm. Second was quite a bit hotter and before I knew it my fingers felt like they were melting. Ouch. More swearing. So I had to put gloves on and finally got them replaced. Now all look a lot better and I'm not greatly injured.

So now hoping the socket falls out or I can find it Saturday in daylight by taking undertray off.

Wow, lights in your footwear, I am impressed. trainers or boots? :D

My sidelights were a bit of a pain too. If they don't fit snuggly in the holder it's very easy for them to fall out into the light when you push the stalk in. Had to give mine a shake a few times. The osram ones I have not seem to fit a lot better though! :)

I prefer the removal of the headlight assembly, it makes it a lot easier!

as for the socket, I expect in your driving it will jump out and land on the road, so I would be surprised if you do get to remove it :p

Do you perhaps have a link to those CREE LED sidelights?

Mine are working fine. I bought these canbus error free ones after I fitted some Osram Nightbreaker main beam bulbs.

Cant really see the bulbs in the lenses when they are off, and the light is a brilliant white when they are on.

I bought the night breaker plus lights too for main and dipped. A lot brighter but not quite as white light as I wanted but still great at night
