Headlights

Featured Replies

Hi all just bought some projector lights for the car to make it look abit meaner at the front and i hear you get a better light beam and vision with them, but upon changing the lamps over from my reflectors i have noticed the H7 in my reflectors were held in with two screw and a cap but in the projector they just twist in??

Is that correct??

Cheers also if anyone needs any replant reflectors i have 2 lol

Can't remember off the top of my head how the bulbs fit in, BUT,,,, I know with the projectors they definitely don't have screws holding the bulbs in ;-)

I know the lamps are held in by pushing them into the connectors but the metal surround which houses them to the headlight does that have screws this is what im on about

Correct, just twist :)

Cheers nath, but it doesn't seem very stable ? Its a bit loose ? Why did they just use a twisting holder in the projector and screws in the reflector why not keep them the same?

If there ain't screws, they don't need them lol. They don't need to be super tight. I've never known one to just 'pop' out if fitted correctly.

Ok lol thanks

Nath, with the projector type headlight can i still use my inboard headlight adjustment switch on the light panel? As the lights feel lighter than the reflectors?? Or is it just manual adjustment only?

Yeah projectors adjust too.

Went to use my lights this morning, and with then sides are selected them come on fine, when i select the dipped the dipped sides and mains come on?? But the mains are on only just?? Is this right? And when i flicked the mains on only the passenger side one came on? Thats not right surely? These are brand new lights so there carnt be anything wrong with them???

Sounds like the earth points need cleaning up to me bud.

  • Author

Ok, where are the earth points for the headlights??

I can't say exactly mate but easy enough to trace back from the light unit / bulb connectors. Could also be the hi / low beam dipswitch.

  • Author

Ok I'll have a look, but it was working perfectly fine with the old headlights before i changed them? I dont understand nothing has changed lol connection and wiring wise??

Read your Thread again, if the bulbs in the projectors earth via their screw in fitting, if they are loose, maybe that's why the lighting is ineffective.

  • Author

Ive double checked all the bulbs and they are secure and fine, the connectors from the wiring loom to the lights is fine and connecting ok, so i dont know what you mean what i should check?

  • Author

I see what you mean now, but no they are all perfectly connected.

Tried my old headlights and they work fine no problems, so is its the new lights would could be wrong with them?

  • Author

If anyone can help, ive now tried switching all the bulbs from one to the other, still same thing happens, ive now tried both headlights on their own and the passenger side works perfectly on its own, the driver side doesnt work on it own, so now im thinking it the drivers side internal wiring, rang ford and they carn do anything about it a new headlight is that correct? Is have had a look inside and the wiring looks a little bad to me solder everywhere which makes me think thats the reason it aint working? So new headlight time?

Does sound like wires shorting across somewhere.

Maybe if you have steady hands you could rewire the dodgy unit using the good one for comparison.

Failing that send the beggars back as defective.

  • Author

Cheers I'll have a go but will try and send them back gutted waited 2 weeks for them :/

  • 5 weeks later...

Did you get a result?

  • Author

yh i sent them back, and they sent a letter to me upon inspection they found it was their fault when they soldered the wires together the earth from the main beam was connected to the live of the side light creating a circuit apparently but they gave me my money back and i got some new ones from some one else.
