Dash Lights Not Working At All, Dip Off And Washer Not Squirting

Featured Replies

Hey you guys!

So I'm new to the board... helloo and a very happy new year to you! Just bought an old skool ford focus (2000) a couple of days back, but noticed in the dark last night a few things...

1. The main dash light isn't lighting up. I've found the dimmer and put it all the way up, but no joy

2. When I turn the dip lights on, the lights are on, but the dip light doesn't light up on the dash... the main beam does though

3. When I try to squirt the windscreen washers, nowt comes out... topped up the washer bottle, but I can't hear the pump running.

I'm going to take it to a chap to have a look at later, but thought I'd stop by you guys first to see if you may be able to give me some pointers to make sure I don't get ripped off by the garage. Any help muchly appreciated!

Welcome to the family Ju!

It sounds like the instrument cluster might have lost its LED's but to be honest, a video or pictures would help more?

As for the washer, it sounds like the switch needs replacing,.

Hi. Thanks. Do you mean take pics in the dark/ daylight? Here's them stashed under my coat in daylight;

have you checked the fuses?

There are some fuses for the instrument cluster, this probably will include the lighting fuse.

When the headlights are on, they should definately come on.

As for the switch, you will probably need a new one, you can pick one up from a scrappy, and just remove the wiper control arm from the steering wheel area, and plug in the new one.

hiya!

so... bizarrely my dash is now working. hopefully it will stay that way. I'll get another switch for the windscreen issue. thanks so much for your help!

happy driving! :D

No problem. It sounds like you might have a loose connection to the instrument cluster, so dont be surprised if you see a few other misbehaviours such as numbers disappearing, dials dropping etc. It is possible that you may need the instrument cluster reconditioning if this is the case, this will cost about £120.
